Technical Support Manager

Rick provides technical support for Griffin growers from Maine to Georgia. He is best known for his thorough command of crop culture, particularly disease and insect control, plant growth regulation, and crop nutrition.

He earned a B.S. degree in Horticulture from the University of Maryland and operated Cornerstone Greenhouses in Myersville, Maryland from 1986-91. Rick has been with Griffin since 1999 when Griffin purchased D&L Grower Supplies in Leola, Pennsylvania where he managed the plant department and grower technical support.

Rick writes regularly for the Griffin Gazette and has authored many articles in greenhouse trade magazines. He is a regular speaker on Griffin’s educational programs and speaks at grower conferences across North America. His industry service includes collaboration with extension specialists across the country, a contribution for which he is highly respected.

Peter’s relationship with Griffin began in 1989 as a speaker on educational programs. Nearly 20 years later, his contribution to Griffin’s grower education effort continues as a speaker, Gazette author, and technical support consultant.

He earned a B.S. degree from the University of New Hampshire, M.S. and Ph.D. from the Ohio State University, and began his career as a faculty member at the University of Maryland. Peter left the academic world in 1984 to join his family’s retail growing operation in Andover, Massachusetts and, in 1992, started a private research and consulting business.

Peter authors articles in numerous industry publications and speaks at grower conferences across North America. His industry service includes serving as a director of the New England Greenhouse Conference and OFA-an association of floriculture professionals.





Technical Support Specialist

Virginia is committed to providing quality technical support for greenhouse growers throughout Griffin’s territory. Additionally, she manages Griffin’s water testing program where she conducts analyses on water quality and develops recommendations.

She is a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Horticulture. With over 25 years of experience as a grower and greenhouse manager, Virginia’s wealth of knowledge allows her to take a hands on approach with each technical call she services. She has been with Griffin since 1999 and has worked in the horticultural distribution field for fourteen years.

Virginia also writes regularly for the Gazette, speaks on educational programs, and coordinates pesticide credits for Griffin seminars and workshops. Her industry service includes serving on the Penn State Capitol Region Advisory Committee where she coordinates educational seminars and the Landisville Field Trails.





Technical Support Specialist

Jim is the most recent addition to Griffin’s Technical Support team, joining in 2008. He is known primarily for his command of plant pathology and integrated pest management with complementary strengths in crop nutrition and business management.

He earned a B.S. degree from West Virginia University and M.S. in Plant Pathology and Physiology from Virigina Tech. His early career experience includes positions at the USDA, Dupont, and Chemlawn. Since 1984 he has worked in the Cooperative Extension Services at Cornell, Penn State, and Rutgers. He has been at Rutgers since 1995, achieving the rank of Associate Professor.

Jim created and published “Northeast Floriculture IPM Notes” while at Rutgers and is considered a leader in the discipline of Integrated Greenhouse Crop Management. He has written numerous articles in trade and university publications and has appeared on programs around the country. His dedication to serving growers through extension activities is widely respected.
