Poinsettia Production A-Z
Poinsettia production provides plenty of challenges even for experienced growers. Reducing shrinkage is one way to make sure this crop is a money maker. This session will include detailed treatment of insect and disease control, height control, nutrition, temperatures, spacing and much more. Troubleshooting common and not so common problems will be covered through the exstensive use of pictures. Tips for preventing and correcting each of these problems will help you begin this poinsettia season with confidence.

This DVD Series includes recordings from the recent full day Seminars held in Maine, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia & New Jersey.

Greenhouse Profitability in Difficult Times: Answering the Challenge.
The challenges greenhouse growers face in trying to maintain healthy, profitable businesses are increasing by the season. Rick Yates, Jim Willmott, and Peter Konjoian will team up to present a day long seminar aimed at tying the many layers of greenhouse management into a discussion of how to maintain profitability during these difficult times. Energy conserving technologies, production and light management, the economics of production capacity, pricing, and shrinkage, and outdoor production strategies are among the topics Rick, Jim, and Peter will cover.
Programs
Disc 1: Using Light to Reduce Heating Costs- Jim
Photoperiod manipulation and supplemental lighting are important for enhancing crop development and reducing finishing time for many crops. Lighting concepts and options for reducing finishing time will are presented.
Disc 2: Energy Efficient Production Decisions- Rick
Challenging some long held assumptions may lead to lowering energy use and production costs. Can using advanced liners improve the bottom line? Should I turn the thermostat up or down? You might be surprised by the answers! We crunch the numbers to try and answer those questions and more.
Disc 3: Crop Pricing, Production Capacity, and Profit- Peter approx. 90 Minutes
Energy, overhead, and most other production costs keep rising. Basic economics states that maintaining acceptable profit margin given these conditions comes down to raising prices. But why do we have such trouble deciding to raise price? Production capacity, crop shrinkage, and pricing are intimately dependent on one another, yet too many growers remain determined to “make it up on volume”. This discussion focuses on the interrelationships between production, price, and shrink in order to better compete in the floriculture marketplace.
Disc 4: Energy Saving Technologies- Dollars and Sense- Jim
Energy costs range from $2.50 - $10.00/ sq ft. depending on production efficiencies. With current energy costs, investments in technologies will not only result in positive returns in a short period of time, but are critical for sustaining profitability and competitiveness. This session will review new technologies, costs and positive returns on investment.
Disc 5: Outdoor Production of Spring Crops- Rick
No matter where you are located producing some of your spring crops outdoors or in unheated structures might put a charge into your bottom line. Specific strategies and case studies from successful growers will be shared to help get your creative juices flowing.
